Dr. Scott Gallian and his wife, Lauren, the owners of Gallian Medical Group in Hardin Valley, understand the importance of quality, reliable medical care. Together, they decided to open a practice focused on providing a pleasant and personable medical experience to its patients.
Making the Move to Rocky Top
The Gallians met in Birmingham, Alabama, at the beginning of their medical careers. Lauren had finished nursing school, and Dr. Gallian was working as an intern after graduating from medical school at Louisiana State University. The pair found themselves working at the same hospital and were friends for many years before becoming a couple.
Shortly after marrying, the Gallians moved to Tennessee, and Lauren went back to school at Vanderbilt University to become a nurse practitioner. Afterward, she was hired by a medical practice, but the pair said it didn’t take long before both of them began to feel burnt out.
A Patient-First Philosophy
After years of jumping through hoops to treat their patients with respect and understanding, the couple decided to open their own medical practice – one that prioritized top-of-the-line patient care.
Dr. Gallian used his undergraduate degree in business to outline a plan, and after a search for the right financial partner to support their endeavor, the Gallians chose SouthEast Bank.
With capital acquired, a solid business plan, years of medical experience and a deep sense of community investment, the Gallians were ready to open their practice. Today, Gallian Medical Group continues to observe its original “patient-first” philosophy.
“We’re going to treat every person with respect, and we’re going to give every patient the appropriate amount of time,” Dr. Gallian said. “We don’t make cars or shoes. We aren’t an assembly line – you can’t do that with medicine.”
An Exceptional Medical Experience
The Gallians also work hard to prioritize their staff. Dr. Gallian said he feels that the typical “patient assembly line” some medical practices develop tends to increase practitioner turnover rate. He maintains that their philosophy of personalizing the medical experience is why they’ve maintained many of the same employees they started with years ago.
“Medicine is a relationship business. It’s a patient-doctor relationship, not a patient-corporate relationship,” Dr. Gallian said.
Both the staff and practitioners at Gallian Medical Group know their clients personally, which makes for an exceptional experience. They are an inclusive practice, take all forms of insurance, and offer a self-pay option.
Their waiting room is large, with a television, coffee maker, and bottled water. The practice has six patient rooms, as well as an x-ray machine. The Gallians shared that they feel patient care should be accessible, and they aim to treat patients in-house whenever possible, rather than sending them to urgent care.
“We are trying to keep people out of the emergency rooms,” Lauren said.
Although patients can contact Dr. Gallian and Lauren easily, like any relationship, they expect the same respect from their clients in return. Lauren and Dr. Gallian stay in communication with their patients and check their patient portal often, including on weekends and holidays.
Dr. and Mrs. Gallian are genuine, showing compassion for their staff, supporters, and patients. They are grateful to use their medical knowledge to help people live long, healthy lives. They strive to maintain a terrific relationship with one another, their employees, their patients, and partners like SouthEast Bank.
“We are a homegrown practice. Relationships are important. SouthEast Bank is a homegrown bank – they took a chance on us,” Lauren said.
