Good to Know: Matthew Furcean, Cookeville-Willow Avenue Branch Supervisor

Creating an outstanding banking experience begins with a strong team, and we at SouthEast Bank pride ourselves on making every experience with us a personal one.

That’s why we care about introducing you to the special team members who you’ll see in our branches every day. Like Matthew Furcean, Supervisor of SouthEast Bank’s Willow Avenue branch in Cookeville. Matthew has been a Cookeville resident for nearly 30 years and has cultivated deep personal and professional roots in the community.

His route into banking, however, was anything but direct. In his early 20s, he pursued state certification as an EMT, led a department as a manager at SEARS, and earned his insurance producer license. After working for a local State Farm agent, however, his career took a new turn. “At that time, State Farm had State Farm Bank, which introduced me to banking products and processes, and I started to love it,” recalls Matthew.

Matthew deepened that love at Putnam 1st Mercantile Bank, a community bank where he worked as a teller and a customer service representative (CSR). Over his seven years there, he was promoted into many positions within the bank, including head CSR and secondary market mortgage originator. By the time the opportunity arose to work at SouthEast Bank, Matthew earned a reputation for success in building community ties and leading customer-facing environments. “My team in Cookeville has been nothing but great,” he says. “Every person here is very friendly and personable. I feel that, together, we provide the full service that anyone should expect from a financial institution.”

Matthew’s storied career has given him many proud moments, but he’s proudest to be a father to Benjamin, now six years old. “He’s the light of my life,” Matthew says. “He’s my mini me.”

Matthew places a premium on time spent with family, and they enjoy listening to live music, vacationing at the beach, visiting zoos and aquariums, and exploring local and state parks. They are also long-time patrons of many of SouthEast Bank’s local business customers, including Stroud’s BBQ, Cream City, Drake’s, Crawdaddy’s, and El Tapatio. A pretty delicious list, if we do say so ourselves!

We hope you’ll introduce yourself next time you visit his branch in Cookeville. Be sure to ask him what home improvements he’s currently tackling!
